1. What is the purpose of this ride?

To promote fitness and “Bike Hays”, to promote the Volga German regional history and church architecture, to promote the award-winning food, beverage, and music industry of the area, to promote the downtown Hays business, galleries, and shops.

2. What is included in the registration fee?

Registered riders receive full support & sags on the ride, a t-shirt (if registered early), an authentic German meal (served from 11-2:30), 2 tickets for drinks (beer and/or Gella’s root beer), and the after-ride party with a live band.

3. Where does the ride start?

The ride starts & ends at Union Pacific Plaza on 10th and Main Streets of Hays, KS.  We call this the “Downtown Pavilion”.

4. Where do I park?

We will have ample parking near Union Pacific and to the west of Main on 10th street.

5. What is the “Fun Ride”?  Is it suitable for children?

The “Fun Ride” is an easy 3-mile ride that goes mainly on the bike path and through FHSU campus parking lots.  It is suitable for children but if under 12, they must be accompanied by an adult.

6. What if I want to do more than the “3-mile Fun Ride” but can’t make the 30 miles?  Is there an in-between?

YES, after the “fun ride” we will lead anyone that wants a few more miles on an easy, “no rider left behind” ride to Munjor and back, which is approximately 13 miles.  Register for the “fun ride”.

7. How difficult is the ride?

This ride offers anywhere from an easy, “no rider left behind” ride of approximately 13 miles (register for the “fun ride”) up to a century ride for those that want that much mileage.  The supported lengths are 30, 50, & 62- mile routes. Any additional distances are self-supported. This is a ride, not a race. When area riders do the 62-mile route, we have 1296 ft. in elevation change. The wind in western KS can always be a factor!!

8. What about hills?

The first segment to Catherine will be the toughest.  After that riders will have fewer hills to climb. The road that goes south to and from Pfeifer has some rolling hills also.

9. What if I have bike trouble or I need to quit the ride in between SAG stops?

We will have vehicle support to “sweep” the routes and a number to call if you need help or need to be picked up.

10. Is this good training for other rides?

Yes, riders will encounter hills, the Kansas wind, and have flat segments to ride training intervals if they want.  If nothing else, the riders are getting base miles in for future and/or races.

11. How many people will be on this ride?

We are hoping for over 100 riders. This is only the second year, and we hope to grow each one! Each rider should have 2 water bottles, snacks, extra tube(s)/patch kit, multi-tool, & small air pump. SAGS will also provide free snacks as part of your registration fee.

13. Can I buy a t-shirt or meal for some extra guests/family members that come along with me but are not registered to ride?

Yes, on the registration form, there is a place to order extra shirts and/or meals.  Please fill out that portion of the registration form.
